Barry McGuigan: Frampton has to pull out all the stops Friday night

CARL Frampton has to strut past rather than just step over a potential banana skin this Friday night says mentor and Cyclone Promotions CEO Barry McGuigan.

The Irish boxing legend claims his man knows he has to look good against his toughest challenge to date in Hugo Cazares to make sure he secures a massive world title fight with Leo Santa Cruz.

McGuigan has challenged the former Europeean champion to ‘pull out all the stops’ against the WBC no 1 ranked contender and two weight world champion in the Odyessy Arena this Friday night.

Unbeaten world title hopeful, Frampton has shown enough talent to earn a massive following and earn praise from peers, pundits and press. However, former World champion McGuigan is always adamant there is more to come pointing out his fighter is more than ready for the elite stage.

He wants the fighter trained by his son Shane to show World champions Leo Santa Cruz’s Promoters Golden Boy and a wider audience just what all the fuss is about on the This Is Belfast fight card this Friday night.

“This is a huge opportunity for Carl to show his ability and show what he can do.

“He has reached the stage where he has to pull-out all the stops and look the part and he will, I promise you.

“We are going to have Golden Boy ringside and they are very interested in Carl fighting their WBC champion Leo Santa Cruz,” McGuigan told the Belfast Newsletter.

“This is getting bigger and bigger all the time. We are getting into the big fights now and we are talking about Santa Cruz – but we are totally focused on Cazares because he has the potential to be a banana skin,” he added.

Former World champion McGuigan hasn’t just called for Frampton to deliver on the top of an exciting bill he is certain the 27 year old will put on a show.

“He is an amazing talent. Carl is 27-years of age and he is getting better all the time. America and Leo Santa Cruz beckons but we cannot take our eyes off Cazares. We are fully focused on April 4.

“The problem is we need a bigger arena and we need good weather if we are to go outside. That could be our biggest problem. Carl has the pulling power to bring in huge crowds and we just do-not have a stadium big enough.”
