Assassin boss details new Murphys Boxing deal – wants to sign Elite Amateurs

Assassin Boxing announced during the week that they have linked up with Boston promotional outfit Murphys Boxing and boss Kaz Evans is looking to take his outfit to the next level.

The Assassin chief, alongside Conor Slater, has entered into the Irish market over the past 18 months and now boasts a stable of over 15 Irish fighters.

However, Evans is keen to bolster his books even further following this new deal.

The association with Murphys, who are fronted by Dropkicks Murphys lead singer Ken Casey, offers a U.S. outlet for fighters turning pro and a real option for progression.

Recently Murphys have guided Cork’s Spike O’Sullivan to a massive world title final eliminator with David Lemieux tonight in Las Vegas, secured TJ Doheny and Danny O’Connor world title fights and Stephen Ormond a world title final eliminator, and are currently working with Wexford heavyweight Niall Kennedy.

Evans is delighted with the link-up and the Brighton fight boss told Irish-Boxing.com that “this is a very important milestone.”

“Murphys have proven themselves over the years and can provide TV for Irish fighters – it’s ESPN, PBC, they’re working with Matchroom on a show in Boston, massive worldwide platforms.”

Evans clarifies that signing with Assassin in a managerial capacity does not ensure a promotional deal with Murphys but it does offer the opportunity should they be suited and impress.

“This is a brand new entity we’re setting up,” he explained.

“A few of the guys that we’ve got, we’ll be exploring it with them, but it’s brand new.”

“We’re looking for new guys, anybody who is unattached, guys who don’t have a manager or promoter and, especially, elite amateurs.”

Evans is keen to sign top fighters to push Stateside and predicts a host of pro defections as the Irish amateur field narrows ahead of the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.

That’s not to say though that existing Assassin fighters aside from American-regular Ray Moylette won’t be given opportunities.

Evans reassured that “we’ve got a few of what people would be perceived as ‘small hall’ guys that are really, really talented, really talented.”

“We’re talking to Ken about a couple of our guys and which ones we’d like to bring in to the fold out there.”

“There’s two of our roster at the minute, and they don’t even know it yet, that we plan to bring out there.”

Further detailing the make-up of the agreement, Evans noted that it will be more than just a feeder arrangement with Murphys and that Assassin will be involved in shows in America and vice-versa.

Outlining his outfit’s plans, Evans revealed that “I expect there to be a co-promotion before the end of the year.”

“With Assassin as the whole brand, we have five shows coming up in the next two and a half month, October 6th [in Dublin], we’re doing a Russia’s Last Man Standing, we’ve a co-promotion in America that’s not with Murphys, then the Murphys show, and Ray Moylette in Mayo.”

“Any elite amateurs out there, looking to go pro, thinking about going pro, now’s the time to pick up the phone and have a chat with us and see what we can be done.”

“There’s some big stuff coming over the next week.”
