Assassin aim to sign Roy Sheahan now that payment controversy is solved

Assassin hope the Roy Sheahan [4(1)-0] ‘debacle’ is so far behind them that the talented and popular Kildare fighter will agree to become a staple part of their 2019 TG4 plans.

A link-up between the managerial-promotional outfit and ‘The Joker’ looked more than unlikely as recently as the summer as the former amateur stand-out was left hurt, frustrated, and even disillusioned after he claimed he wasn’t paid his Last Man Standing earnings.

In June of this year, the Athy BC graduate said that his breakout night in March, where he won a Prizefighter-style tournament live on TG4, was ruined by the fact he had only received €5,000 of the €26,000 owed for winning the competition and recording a knockout over Jack Cullen in the final.

The Lilywhite admitted to being in a bad place when speaking to Irish-Boxing.com at the time and was laying the blame at Assassin’s feet – who co-promoted the bill for which Red Corner were the promoter of record.

A statement from the BUI seemed to exhonerate the Kaz Evans-run company and lay the blame at the feet of Red Corner – who have yet to speak publicly, but have privately suggested the public understanding of the scenario is wrong – and Assassin themselves explained to this site that their side of the story.

Sheahan is now paid up, with Assassin suggesting they stepped in and paid money they officially didn’t owe – and the fighter returns to the game on an Assassin card on December 7th.

The 34-year-old, who has Irish title ambitions at light middleweight, trades leather on the undercard of close friend Ray Moylette’s WBC International ranking title fight with Christian Uruzquieta live on TG4.

Speaking at the official launch of the a TV link-up which could breath further life into the resurgent domestic game outside of Belfast, Evans revealed that Assassin are hopeful of signing Sheahan and are equally hopeful that he will play a major part in a long-term TV relationship.

“Roy isn’t on board yet, but we are talking about it,” Evans confirmed to Irish-Boxing.com.

“I think the first thing was to get Roy back in front of the public and fighting again. We had to put a few issues to bed and clear up some of the rumours that go around.”

“I think Roy working with us sends out a message and I’d like to think we can release something about Roy in the next couple of weeks,” added the promoter.

Sheahan, due to the short notice, returns in a four rounder next month but, should he elect to sign with Assassin, is on course to jump through the levels.

Evans outlined how “the first and most important thing was to get Roy back out there boxing. The public will come out and watch him and they will tune in and watch him.”

“We would be looking to fast track Roy. There is no reason why by March time Roy wouldn’t be fighting for a good title.”
