“Arrogant” Josh Warrington fires back at “Cocky” Carl Frampton

Josh Warrington has been accused of arrogance by Carl Frampton but the Leeds fighter feels it is the Irishman who is ‘cocky’.

The IBF featherweight champion makes the first defence of his belt versus Frampton on Saturday night at the Manchester Arena, live on BT Sport Box Office.

Frampton has not been impressed by suggestions from Warrington that he could stop the Belfast boxer who, he feels, has seen better days.

‘The Jackal’ has labelled the Englishman “arrogant” in the wake of these comments, noting his belief that he is better than Warrington in all areas – leading to Frampton himself being accused of cockiness.

“It’s a bit cocky of him to say that he’s better than me in every department,” said Warrington [27(6)-0]

“I feel like he’s been overlooking me.”

‘The Leeds Warrior’, who is noted for his work rate, believes he and his team have identified flaws in Frampton [26(15)-1(0)] that can bring them victory this weekend.

Warrington refuses to call Frampton, who is odds on even without totesport promo codes, an elite fighter and is looking to use the fight as a platform for major fights.

The 27-year-old outlined how “I don’t want to give my game plan away but every fighter has his weaknesses and Carl is no different.”

“I look at Carl as a good fighter but not an elite fighter – he’s got his weaknesses and I’ve had a look at them. I will look to exploit them on the night.”

“[The Frampton fight] is still a stepping stone too to be honest. I’ve set out my stall out to go out and unify like he does. The difference is he’s had his time up there.”

Warrington feels now is his time and believes he is more than able to cause a second successive upset following his stunning title win over Lee Selby in May.

“It is funny being world champion and going in as an underdog – Carl has been at a higher level at a longer time but I feel like I’m just getting started,” promised the Yorkshireman.

“I wouldn’t say it’s annoying when people write me off. It’s more motivation to prove people wrong. Those who doubt me don’t bother me whatsoever.”

“It feels like I’ve still got a lot to prove to some people, I beat Selby and I was still ranked No 2 behind Carl in the British rankings.”
