Another one gone! – Ireland’s Last Man Standing suffers loss of second fighter

The inaugural Ireland’s Last Man Standing tournament has been hit with another withdrawal, leaving the eight-man tournament in need of two repalacements.

Earlier this week it emerged that Belfast’s Padraig McCrory [2(1)-0] would not be competing on the March 3rd Dublin fight night at the National Stadium, and now Tallaght fighter Thomas Finnegan [2(0)-0] has also confirmed that he will not be entering.

The Dubliner was one of the eight announced fighters at a press conference last week, himself being a late replacement for an unnamed chosen participant who had withdrawn at the eleventh hour.

However, Finnegan contacted Irish-Boxing.com to clarify that he will not be fighting on the bill in six and a half weeks time and bringing the list of confirmed fighters down to six.

The Jobstown boxer debuted last year and scored two wins on Red Corner shows before linking up with experienced manager-trainer Tony Davitt. ‘Victorious’ was due to box on the Celtic Clash 4 bill at the National Stadium last month but was a late withdrawal.

The aftermath of the loss of McCrory from the line-up saw Dublin-based Scot John McCallum put his name forward as a replacement. Event promoters Red Corner and Assasin say that there are two reserves waiting in the wings, and it looks like both of them will be needed now.

The six remaining fighters are:

Chris Blaney [9(3)-0] – Meath
Henry Coyle [19(12)-2(2)] – Mayo
Sean McGlinchey [2(0)-0] – Derry
Alfredo Meli [14(3)-0-1] – Belfast
Bernard Roe [6(1)-0] – Dublin
Roy Sheahan [debutant] – Kildare
