Andy Lee’s cousin Crank Whitehouse debuts in Downpatrick tomorrow

Former European  Schoolboy Championships bronze medalist Gerrard Whitehouse is ready to ‘Crank’ it up in the pro game.

The light middleweight with good amateur pedigree ditches the vest and punches for pay for the first time against 27-year-old journeyman, Liam Griffiths from Sussex on Saturday night.

The Balbriggan native is excited about his debut and like most fighters starting out predicted a journey to World titles lies ahead.

“As an amateur, I won four Irish titles, a European bronze medal, and HSK Box Cup gold medal. I went pro because I always liked it better than the amateur boxing. I think that the pro style suits me better,” he explained.

“My fight style is that I can box and I can fight depending on whatever way the fight is going. I can change so I like to call myself a box-fighter. I have the same ambitions as any fighter – to be a world champion.”
