American TV to broadcast Frampton Martinez II

AWE has picked up American TV rights to the September 6 rematch between Carl Frampton and Kiko Martinez.

AWE — formerly known as WealthTV — still pops up in the boxing world now and again, and they’ve nabbed a good one for September 6, as the niche channel will air the rematch between Kiko Martinez and Carl Frampton from Belfast, which will also air on BoxNation in the United Kingdom.

Martinez (31-4, 23 KO) will be defending the IBF super bantamweight title, but the 28-year-old Spaniard is also the fighter looking for revenge. Frampton (18-0, 13 KO) laid a solid beating on him in February 2013, stopping Martinez in nine rounds.

After an easy win over a club fighter in Argentina a couple months after that loss, Martinez managed to land an IBF title shot against Jhonatan Romero, and smashed Romero in six rounds on HBO to win the belt. He’s put away Jeffrey Mathebula (KO-9) and Hozumi Hasegawa (TKO-7) in two fights since.

Frampton, 27, is one of the brightest young stars in the game. He’s already a strong draw in Belfast, and now gets a chance to revisit what is the best win of his career to date, this time with a world title at stake.
