Allan Phelan promises that “people will see the difference” on return from shock defeat

Allan Phelan [8(5)-3(1)] says he has learnt his lesson and won’t make the same mistakes when he returns to the ring on October 7th.

The Kildare feather was the first fighter in action on the Red Corner Promotions ‘For Honour and Pride’ card at the National Stadium, but suffered shock defeat as experienced English journeyman Jamie Quinn outpointed him over four rounds.

The reverse, Phelan’s first on home soil and first since he sorted an old shoulder injury, seemed to halt the momentum that was building him toward a possible Irish title fight with Eric Donovan.

The result left the Newbridge man down in the dumps for a period, and he is determined to unsure he doesn’t taste a defeat served up in that manner again.

The Celtic Warrior Gym puncher has spent the time reflecting rather than wallowing on the Quinn mishap and having discovered where things went wrong is now keen to put them right starting with his next outing.

“I’ve learned a lot since my last fight and what went wrong and right. I just have to correct the wrongs, learn from them and build. I will make sure it doesn’t happen again, there will be no stones unturned for this fight. I will be bringing the best of me to the ring and people will see the difference on the night. It’s going to be a cracking night of boxing,” he told Irish-Boxing.com.

Regardless of the reverse, Red Corner Promotions seem to have confidence in Phelan and having used the former American-based fighter for their two previous shows they have signed him up for their third promotional instalment.

Such a quick return to the ring and a potential return to winning ways seems the perfect tonic for Phelan and like Red Corner, who previously backed him to defeat Donovan in rather convincing fashion if the fight was made next year, the fighter remains confident in his ability.

“It’s fantastic to be getting back fighting so soon I have to get in an perform now and let people no that last fight was an off day and it wasn’t me. I’m totally confident I know when I perform no one will stand with me.”

“Okay the last fight I didn’t perform as I should have, but that can happen whether we like it or not. I just have to get back on the horse and keep going forward.”

An opponent has yet to be confirmed for the Paschal Collins-trained fighter’s return, but Phelan isn’t too pushed as he claims it’s not something he ever really looks into.

“I let my manager and trainer look at opponents I really don’t mind who it is.”
