Darren Cruise hasn’t given up on his Irish title dream and is ready to drop down to middleweight where he will take on all comers in a bid to secure another tilt.
The Rosscommon man was speaking after he lost an all action domestic dust up with JJ McDonagh in Sussex by a single round on Saturday night.
The 26 year old was left gutted by failure to buckle the Irish super middleweight title around his waist, yet pleased he proved his worth as a challenger.
The Solider now plans to solider on and determined to win an Irish title as targeted a shot at the vacant middleweight strap most recently held by Eamonn O’Kane and Gary ‘Spike’ O’Sullivan.
“I am going to drop to middleweight and hopefully challenge for the vacant Irish title,” Cruise told Irish-boxing.comm
.
“I don’t care who I have to fight to win it. I think I’ve proven now that I will fight anybody”
In an era where a lot of Irish pugilist prefer the journey man option over domestic scraps, Cruise has been an all Irish regular. He has fought Robbie Long, John Hutchinson, Lee Murtagh and McDonagh and he believes that the fan favourite all Irish clash is the way to go.
“It was a great honour for me to fight for the Irish title. I think it something that isn’t fought for enough. I really believe that good 50/50 Irish fights is the way forward an it would give the Irish fans something to get excited about,” he added before thanking his support in England on Saturday night.
“I would like to finish by thanking everybody who traveled from Roscommon and Galway to support me on the night it was incredible.”
