All-Irish Boston Brawl CONFIRMED for St Patrick’s Weekend

A suggestion can go a long way.

It has been confirmed that Lucan welter John Joyce [7(4)-0] will take on Cork’s Noely Murphy [12(2)-1(0)-1] in America this St Patrick’s Weekend.

An eight-round match-up between the pair has been added to the big Murphys Boxing show at the Tsongas Centre in the Boston suburb of Lowell, hometown of Micky Ward, on Saturday March 16th.

Joyce had ‘suggested’ the fight, via Irish-Boxing.com, last November and Murphy’s manager, Kevin Crowley, also via Irish-Boxing.com, would respond positively.

Now, in seemingly no time at all, the bout has been confirmed for a big Boston show.

It is a first ‘big’ fight for Joyce.

‘The Demogorgon’ has built steadily over 2017 and 2018 with a number of solid six-rounders but faces a massive step up against Murphy.

The New York-based Murphy will be looking to reignite his career on the Murphys show following a stuttering 2018.

Having built a good record, the Macroom man took on recently announced world title challenger Mikkel LesPierre for the WBC USA light welter title last February but was edged out, a late point deduction proving crucial, and was then held to a shocking draw by Andre Byrd on his return to the ring last month.

No title is confirmed for the eight-round match-up although it is envisionable that the BUI Celtic title last held by Jay Byrne and previously possessed by Murphy will be on the line – or perhaps even the Celtic Nations belt last won by Danny O’Connor on the 2017 Murphys Boxing St Patrick’s Weekend show

Light welter Mark De Luca headlines the bill in a ten-round fight versus Jimmy Williams while there are also slots for Ryan Kielczweski, Mike O’Han, Travis Gambardella, Irvin Gonzalez, and Joe Farina. Cork’s Spike O’Sullivan is also listed to appear in an eight rounder but full confirmation of this is awaited.
