All-Irish battle set for Belfast show

Ger Healy [5(0)-4(1)-1] wont be easing his way back in to things when he makes his return to the ring later this year.

Indeed the Belfast light middleweight has agreed to an all-Irish clash of sorts with Tommy ‘Irish’ Carter [1(0)-4(2)].

The pair will face off over four rounds at the Devenish Complex in West Belfast on Saturday April 22nd on the inaugural Kieran Farrell BEM Promotions card in the city.

‘Boom Boom’ Healy is making a comeback having not fought since his win over Piotr Tomaszek back in June 2015, and the 33 year old has Irish title aspirations, wanting to quickly get in to contention.

These same aspirations are held by Derbyshire-born Carter, whose father hails from Drogheda and who is a regular visitor to these shores. The Tideswell scrapper turned pro without major backing and has spent the majority of his time as an ambitious ‘away’ fighter. The 22 year old has fought twice on Farrell shows, losing a competitive fight on his debut against former Irish underage international Matty Mainwaring before outpointing Nick Golubs to grab his first, and so far only, win.

Both fighters have plenty of notice for the fight, which is just over twelve weeks away, and both will most certainly be coming to win.

Headlining the bill in Belfast is Feargal McCrory, with the Tyrone lightweight set to feature in an eight-round minor title fight. Chief support comes from the debut of 2014 Commonwealth bronze medalist Sean McGlinchey while there are also undecard appearances for Joe Hillerby, Mathew Fitzsimons, Daniel McShane, and the debut of Sean Magee.
