Aiden Metcalfe – “I’m in the sport long enough now, it’s time to make a name for myself”

For the general boxing fan, the name Metcalfe may stand out on the running order of the ‘Celtic Clash 3: Building Champions’ bill in the National Stadium.

Between himself and his brother Evan, Aiden Metcalfe helped ensure that the name made regular appearances in the National Stadium during the Elite Senior Championships.

Now the Crumlin super featherweight is back at the venue to make his professional debut and wants people to sit up and take notice.

One of eight debutants on the bill this weekend, Metcalfe knows the importance of standing out.

“I want to get out there and make a name for myself, become a star,” he told Irish-Boxing.com.

“I have to show them. I’m in the sport long enough now, it’s time to make a name for myself.”

Metcalfe has been training in Kimmage under Sean Carton at the All Saints Gym and the 22 year old has enjoyed the transition ahead of his four-rounder with Poland’s Dawid Knade [4(0)-16(9)].

The Dubliner outlined how “camp went well, I changed things up, my fitness is getting better, and I’m ready to go now.”

“There’s more buzz now in camp, changing into the pro game, than there was in the amateurs.”

“We’ve been changing things, sitting more on shots instead of bouncing on the toes like in the amateurs. I’m adapting to it well.

Along with lightweight stablemate Martin Quinn, who also debuts, there will be plenty of Crumlin voices in the famous venue, and Metcalfe promised that “you’ll hear us on the night, we make ourselves heard.”

Headlined by the Eric Donovan v Dai Davies BUI Celtic featherweight title fight, the ‘Celtic Clash 3: Building Champions’ card also features Regan Buckley v Carl McDonald, Gerard Whitehouse, James Cahill, Stephen McAfee, Martin Quinn, Aiden Metcalfe, Dylan McDonagh, Colin O’Donovan, Chris Mullally, Michael Gallagher, Keane McMahon, Niall O’Connor, John Joyce and Bernard Roe.

Tickets for the show cost €30 (Balcony), €40 (Gallery), €60 (Ringside), €100 (VIP Premium), and €15 (Under-15s gallery – must be bought alongside an adult ticket) and are available to buy from Aiden at 086 2454 350 or online at Ticketmaster.ie.
