Adamek outguns Celtic Warrior
12 July 2009 – By Mark Doyle
Bobby Gunn fell short in his bid to wrest the IBF cruiserweight title away from Tomasz Adamek in Newark, New Jersey on Saturday night.
Irish-American Gunn fought bravely to dethrone the highly-rated Adamek but the referee, Earl Brown, decided to call a halt to what was becoming an increasingly one-sided contest at the end of the fourth round.
Gunn had managed to negotiate the opening two rounds of the bout without too much difficulty and managed to land some strong left hands when he got in low on the inside, but Adamek was still dominating proceedings courtesy of his impressive jab.
The New York-based Pole then began to let his right hand go in the third before subjecting Gunn to a sustained assault of punishing combinations in the fourth, leading to a cut opening up above The Celtic Warriors right eye.
Gunn, once again demonstrating his remarkable fighting spirit, withstood the onslaught and made it back to his corner but Brown refused to let the 35-year-old New Jersey native answer the bell for the fifth round.
