Aaron McKenna ready to celebrate leaving his fighting teens with fireworks

Aaron McKenna [7(4)-0] wants to celebrate leaving his fighting teens with fireworks in the Fantasy Springs Casino, Indio, California tonight.

The Monaghan 19-year-old takes on Mexican Daniel Perales [10(5)-17(7)-2] in a welterweight bout Stateside and wants to put on a show in his last fight before he turns 20 early next month.

The Golden Boy promoted and Sheer Sports managed fighter has impressed massively since turning over in December of 2017. A victory tonight would be his eight on the trot and even more impressively Perales is his first opponent to bring a losing record to the ring.

Despite his tender age and his innocent boyish looks the Smithborough fighter, who was Ireland’s youngest pro until James Power and Katelynn Phelan came on the scene, looks to carry genuine power. McKenna has stopped four of his seven opponents, but is somewhat disappointed he was taken the distance last time out.

Loretto Olivas was put to the canvas by the younger brother of fellow pro Stevie McKenna, who registered a second successive stoppage win last week, but managed to reach the final bell.

It’s something that still sits with ‘The Silencer’ and something he seems to want to amend on in America tonight.

“I learned a lot from my last fight. He was a good opponent. I landed some hard shots, and he was still standing there. I scored a knockdown and won all of the rounds, but I didn’t get the knockout. I wanted to get it for the fans, but I still learned a lot. It was good to go six rounds,” McKenna said.

McKenna wants to take the lessons learnt from his last bout and improve this time out. It seems he is intent on being more explosive and is promising fireworks.

“I’ve been getting stronger and better with each fight. I have been improving. I want to take each experience into the following fight. I want to learn. I want to become world champion. Friday night you can expect fireworks and a great night of boxing.”
