A lot at stake for O’Sullivan and Lemieux says Golden Boy president

It has war written all over it.

In Gary ‘Spike’ O’Sullivan and David Lemieux you have two come forward big punching seek and the destroy merchants. However, put a massive potentially life and legacy changing fight fight with either Gennady Golovkin or Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez on the table for the winner and you have the perfect recipe for a sensational dust up.

That seems to be the view of Golden Boy president Eric Gomez.

Gomez claims Golden Boy are putting on an ‘event’ in Las Vegas on September 15 of Super Bowl proportions.

The main event is the rematch between Canelo and GGG, but Perez believes a bout between the Cork middleweight and the Canadian former world champion will play a part in creating a brilliant spectacle.

“What we are looking for at Golden Boy is for September 15 to be one of the best events ever, starting with the stellar fight between Canelo and Golovkin. For us, this event is our ‘Super Bowl.’ There will be prospects, new champions, consummate champions, we want to be proud of this event,” said Gomez to ESPN Deportes before discussing a possible Cork Canada showdown.

“From Golden Boy’s very beginnings, we always want good fights. The one with Lemieux and O’Sullivan is a very attractive fight. The people that know them know that they like to come forward and the two of them are going to put on a show, because there is also a big fight at stake.”

O’Sullivan and Lemieux has yet to be officially signed-Spike revealed he has put pen to paper but is waiting on the former IBF title holder to agree terms-but Gomez’s words suggest a deal should be done soon.

The Golden Boy president also revealed Jamie Munguía, the WBO light middleweight weight Kildare’s Dennis Hogan has in his sights should also be on the card.

‘The Hurricane’ has expressed a willingness to fight the big Mexican light middle as soon as September 15, but it remains unsure as to whether or not the Australian based #1 contender is Golden Boy’s thinking for a fighter than has earned a voluntary defence.

“We are also talking to Zanfer, hoping to finalize Jaime Munguía for the card, we are still finishing up the negotiations with other fighters…. like ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez – and we are very close with that. We are finalizing everything and we hope that by the end of this week we can give something official.”
