JJ McDonagh looking to set up mouthwatering domestic dust up with Oct 6 win

JJ McDonagh [16(8)-4(1)] is hoping a win on the Assassin Promotions October 6 show will set up a mouthwatering Westmeath versus Meath battle.

The Irish super middleweight champion will be looking to get back to winning ways after defeat in the TG4 broadcast Last Man Standing to eventual winner Roy Sheahan when he returns to the ring in the National Basket Ball Arena in Tallaght.

The Mullingar native today joined Owen Duffy, Cillian Reardon and Franzy Luzoho as confirmed on a show which Assassin promise will excite and entertain.

No opponent has been officially confirmed as of yet, but considering he enters the fight on the back of a defeat journey man is expected to man the away corner on the Rise Again card.

However, McDonagh is eager to get back into big fights and claims, after October 6th, he will be gunning for Navan man Chris Blaney [10(3)-1(0)].

McDonagh claims now is the time to start fulfilling his potential and suggestions victory over Blaney will kick him on to European level would hint that he is eyeing an Irish title fight with the Ricky Hatton trained fighter, possibly at middleweight.

“It’s time I really kick on. I got massive momentum from my wins over the last couple of years and it a minor set back when I rolled the dice in last man standing,” McDonagh, whose brother Paddy is an Irish title holder at light heavyweight.

“I have three or four good years left and i want to make a good run at it.

“I want to get a tune up fight and then fight Chris Blaney. And then from there I know I’ll be good enough and validated for a European title.”
