O’Kane eyes Judgement Day Celtic Title shot
By Jonny Stapleton
HAVING bagged the prestigious and ultimately career changing Prizefigher trophy Eamonn O’Kane now has his sights set on another professional accolade.
Considering the former amateur stand out is in his thirtieth year on the planet- albeit just his second as a pro fighter – he is keen to move his way up the ladder and has set his sights on a Celtic Title.
There was talk of possible British title shots but Matchroom and Team O’Kane believe a Celtic Title is the natural next step.
They had Lee Churcher lined up for a Celtic clash on the bumper September 22 show, but the fight fell through on the Welsh mans end.
However, speaking to the Derry Journal manager Francie McNichol revealed they still have the strap in their sights and a scouring Scotland and Wales for a suitable middleweight opponent.
“We originally had a fight agreed for Eamon against Lee Churcher, who has had to pull out through no fault of our own. That was to be for the vacant Celtic Title. He can’t take the fight now and we are trying to arrange another fight for Eamon – still for the Celtic Title so it will have to be someone from Scotland or Wales.”
Irish-boxing.com will be running a ticket competition for the bumper September 22 show- follow us on twitter @irishboxingcom for more details.
