Nevin not settling for Bronze- ‘I Want It All’
By Jonny Stapleton
JOHN Nevin was nothing short of ecstatic when he defeated Oscar Valdez Fierro to claim Olympic Bronze on Monday.
Full of joy the Mullingar talent, who some have labelled Ireland’s boxer of the tournament, said he would have exchanged both his World Championship medal for metal of the Olympic kind.
He also expressed his delight at being able to get of the plane with a medal around neck rather than hanging back as he was forced to do in Beijing.
The Paris World Series Boxer might be reviling in his momentous achievement, but has no intentions settling for Bronze.
Nevin goes into today’s Olympic bantamweight semi final with World champion, Cuba’s Lazaro Estrada-Alvarez as underdog, but is hungry for success and will be the type of underdog that will fight back.
“I just want to keep getting better, but I want it all- like the song Queen had says. And I do want it all. There is still more in me. We are working on things. I said from the start I am up there with the best in the world I just need to believe in myself. I know I can perform better and hopefully it comes off,” Nevin revealed.
