Molitor: Frampton has balls but won’t be rolling into the big time just yet

BY Jonny Stapleton

STEVE Molitor believes Carl Frampton has show the ‘balls’ needed to be a top class fighter by accepting a fight with him, but warned the Belfast fighter has no hope of making his name off the Canadian’s back.

Two time World champion, Moitor comes to Belfast to challenge for the local lads Commonwealth title after Kiko Martinez pulled out of the scheduled September 22 European title fight.

Most agree replacement Molitor is a tougher test than the Spaniard and the 32 year old himself claims its a bold move to take him on a short notice.

The Canadian super bantamweight, whose name was name was a regular among the list of potential opponents after every Bernard Dunne victory back in the great Dublin’s era, also took time to remind the Belfast Boy that isn’t still hungry for success he is starving.

“Although I am coming in off of Martinez stepping out, I have been training like a mad man for several months. I am not hungry, I am starving. Mr. Eddie Hearn, Mr. Barry McGuigan and Mr. Frampton, you have all the respect in the world from me. Stepping up against me as a two time IBF Champion of the World takes balls. I’d like to thank the Irish public in advance for coming out to the show and I have to tell them: Don’t blink, you’re going to love the fireworks.”

Molitor firework predictions, his apparent determination to win and the fact he is a respected puncher have certainly helped eased the disappointment felt after Martinez once again produced a sick note.

He certainly enters the fight undeterred and has no issue with coming across the Atlantic to take on Barry McGuigan’s protege.
“I love fighting across the pond,” said Molitor. “I’m four for four over there and plan on retaining that perfect record.

“I am excited about fighting Frampton. Although he is not a household name amongst the rest in my division, he is recognised as a future star. Scott Quigg, Kid Galahad, and Carl are all names that are trying to make a name for themselves in the 122lb division, but unfortunately none of them will be making it off the Molitor name.
