Queensberry Rules in Royal Theatre for WBF King Henry
By Jonny Stapleton
HENRY Coyle provided Irish fans with their fight fix as boxing withdrawal began to set in a week after the Olympic’s had ended last Friday night- and fittingly after Ireland’s tremendous London 2012 success the Mayo favourite feels he employed somewhat of an amateur style in his WBF title defense.
Coyle dominated from first to last bell and looked like he could have took the short route to victory by ending Marcelo Rodriguez involvement before the judges could have a say.
However the Argentine showed Bear Grill’s style survival instincts and the Chicago based Geesela man was content to box rather than bully his way to victory.
“I boxed him tonight and that’s what it is all about, the Queensberry Rules. There was a time when I wouldn’t have done that. God bless Mayo, a great atmosphere and great people. Respect to the kid [Rodriguez] he took plenty of shots and came back. He’s a tough competitor,” Coyle said after the bout.
