Revenge Mission for Ginley this Saturday
By Jonny Stapleton
MARK Ginley fights the man who inspired him to go pro tonight.
Unfortunately for Andres Podjovs he wasn’t ‘The Situation’s’ hero and it certainly wasn’t his fighting style, flair or panache that prompted Ginley, 23, to ditch the vest and the head guard.
Podjovs defeated the Emerald Promotions jewel when the pair where amateurs and it left such a bitter taste in the brother of ’Sugar’ Ray Ginley’s mouth he opted to end his amateur career and turned pro.
The 23 year old now has the chance to right a boxing wrong in the Emerald Road House this weekend and told Irish-boxing.com that he is on a revenge mission.
“I am fighting a lad from Lativa he has three wins and three loses on his record. I boxed him in the amateurs when he was actually fighting for Cyprus. He beat me as an amateur, but the scoring was a joke. That loss is one of the reason I decided to turn pro after I was so upset with the decision of that fight,” the older but smaller of the Ginley brothers explained.
The Belfast fighter is confident his preparations have gone well and believes boxing justice will be served on Saturday nights action packed show.
“I had a great camp. I’ve been sparring Willie Casey and Anthony Cacace, who are two different types of fighters, the new opponent is smaller than me just like Willie and likes to get inside and work too, so I know exactly what way to fight him.”
Last time out Ginley was in a close and entertaining battle with British boxing’s panto villain Johnny Greaves. He hopes to entertain again this weekend but claims this time round it will be more of a one man show.
“I’m always looking to entertain, people don’t pay money to watch boring fights! Though this time I will be a lot smarter and I’m injury free so you will see the proper Mark Ginley. You can expect me to be sharp and busy for all 6 rounds I’m fit and ready.”
