KATIE Taylor is said to be favourite for the roll of Irish flag bearer at the Olympics opening ceremony later this month.

Female athletes were awarded the highly symbolic honour  of carrying the flag and leading the team out in the past two games and it is likely Ireland will continue the female theme and give Taylor the staring role.

Sonia O’Sullivan is entrusted with picking the flag bearer for the July 27 ceremony -and despite claims no decision has been made as of yet the rumour is Taylor, as World champion and participant in the first ever  female Olympic boxing competition, will be bestowed the honour.
