Hillerby targets Irish title win tonight and British title victory next year
JOE Hillerby hopes to take another significant step toward a British title fight with victory in the Emerald Road House tonight.
The Sandyrow bill topper is looking to add the light middleweight Irish title to the Northern Irish title strap he won in the Odyssey arena earlier this year on a bill that includes all the Emerald Promotions jewels and Kiko Martinez.
Standing in the way of the undefeated Belfast fighters and further success is perennial Irish title challenger Lee Murtagh and The Faith believes if he is to fight for a British title he has to be over coming the likes of the Leeds based Irish puncher.
“Some people say Murtagh is a journey man, but he has won titles before and he is a very experienced campaigner. I know this my toughest test to date, but I want to be fighting for a British title next year. So with all due respect to Lee – I have to beating the likes of him if I want to be winning titles in the future,” Hillerby told the Newsletter.
Hillerby revealed he got a taste for success after he buckled the Northern Ireland title around his waste.
“It was good to get that first title under my belt.
“Thompson was tough and durable but I got the job done. It was also good to get 10 rounds under my belt. I am up for Saturday night and all the lads in the camp are looking to impress and win. All the lads have trained hard and are ready to get started,” he added.
