Ginley ready to punish Messer Meikle
EMERALD prospect Ray Ginley says he will punish ‘messer’ Jodie Meikle and maintain his unblemished home record this Saturday night.
Pro novice Ginley has never tasted defeat in Ulster and he plans to keep it that way when he faces the experienced journey man.
“I’m fighting Jodie Meikle he’s a bit of a messer, but he is a tough lad, he’s been in with some good fighters and punchers and took them the distance. I’m confident I will beat him I’ve never been beaten in the North of Ireland in my life and I don’t intend on starting now. My only loss’s were in 4 Irish finals and 2 internationals,” Ginley told Irish-boxing.com.
Meikle, 32, may only have three wins in 26 fights, but he is experienced and as Ginley said taken some decent foes the distance.
Indeed he comes to the venue where two fight novice Ginley registered a first round knock out on his debut with just two stoppage reverses on his record.
Sugar Rea is aware it won’t be an easy ask, but he is confident he can use the known journey man to improve his ranking.
“I would say he’s a test to a certain extent. He’s experienced and crafty and likes a tear up, but in my eyes he’s just another obstacle in my journey and I plan on putting on a good performance and improving my ranking. You can expect me to be relaxed, fast and picking my shots, as always,” the jovial character added.
Ginley meets Meikle at around 12 stone in the Emerald Road House on Saturday, but has once again reiterated his desire to get to get down to super middleweight. So after hopefully adding to his win column this weekend the teenager will set out a plan to deduct his waist size.
“The bouts at 12st 10oz and in sitting bang on the weight at the minute. This will be the last time I will fight at this weight. I’m a natural super middle weight so I’ll need to start bringing it down after this fight and stop eating so much,” he added before discussing the card in general and the Emerald family.
“It is a great card for Emerald Promotions second show, and there is al ot of excitement about the show. Tickets are flying out so it’s got me buzzing, I just can’t wait to fight now.”
