Buy signed portraits of Irish squad and help Schoolboy boxing
The Irish 2012 Olympic boxing squad have been laid out on canvas.
Irish artist Brendan O’Rourke unveiled two portraits of our six strong London 2012 side and four-time AIBA World champion Katie Taylor at Tuesday’s press conference at Dublin’s National Stadium and presented his work to IABA President Tommy Murphy.
The autographed Irish team portrait has already attracted a bid of €1,500, while autographed copies of both portraits are on sale at €20 from the National Stadium.
All proceeds will go toward the funding of two Irish squads for the upcoming European Schoolboy and European Women’s Youth and Junior Championships.
The 2012 European Schoolboy Championships gloves off in Anapa, Russia in October, followed by the European Women’s Youth and Junior Championships in Władysławowo Poland.
Ireland’s young boxers claimed numerous medals at both tournaments over the last number of years.
IABA Director of Boxing Dominic O’Rourke said that they hoped to get a big response to the sales of both portraits: “The objective is to raise funding for our teams for the European Schoolboy Championships and the European Women’s Youth and Junior Championships.
“Our young boxers have won a lot of medals at these tournaments over the last few years and we’re hoping to get as big a response as possible to this unique fund raising initiative so we can send our teams to Russia and Poland later this year.”
