Rogan: Fury afraid of Price
By Jonny Stapleton
IRISH heavyweight champion Tyson Fury is running scared of David Price and has to defeat the British belt holder if he is to call himself a genuine contender, according to Martin Rogan.
Fury came under intense criticism when he elected to vacate the British and Commonwealth belts in favour of defending against undefeated prospect Price.
Liverpool’s Price subsequently labelled the Hennessy Promotions star ‘Chicken Fury’ and questioned the Irish Travellers fighting spirit.
Belfast favourite, Rogan, who Fury defeated to become Irish champion in April, echoed Price’s views and believes the six foot seven inch giant is wary of anyone who can match him for size.
‘The Iron Man’ is also critical of Fury’s next opponent, Vinny Maddalone and hinted that the fighter the Klitschko brothers see as a potential heir to their world throne is being over protected.
“To be honest I don’t know much about the guy he is fighting. I don’t pay much attention to Fury’s career, but no doubt the guy is smaller and can’t punch. Fury doesn’t like to fight anyone tall. People will eventually realise he is fighting no body’s and get bored,” Rogan told Mirror Sport.
“What he needs to do is to fight David Price. Price is up and coming and people want to see him in the ring with Fury. Tyson won’t take that fight though. He is wary of Price because he is tall too and can punch. If he is to call himself a real fighter and contender he has to
fight Price.”
Team Fury claim the TV issues meant they had to turn off the idea of facing Price, but Rogan isn’t a believer and claims if they wanted they fight they could have made it happen.
“They say they wanted the fight but because they were on two different TV networks couldn’t make it happen? I don’t believe that for a minute. The fight was going to purse bids all they had to do was in those and put it on the TV station they wanted. Fury gave up his titles not because of TV but because he was afraid of Price.”
