Promotional Power can secure Wilton title shot
The merging of Belfast Promotions and Peace Promotions will help Luke Wilton secure a major title fight this year, according to Alan Wilton.
The new promotional team, which combines Belfast promotion’s Alan and Jane Wilton and new promoter Mark Dunlop, are hoping to cultivate a new crop of Belfast’s finest fighters to the top of the game.
Flyweight Wilton is said to be on the cusp of domestic title tilt and his Dad and promoter Alan Wilton believes with stronger promotional power behind him the Bernard Checa trained fighter will secure his shot.
Peace Promotions first big fight night takes place in the Ulster Hall on October 13 and Wilton is hoping to top the bill in a significant title fight.
“Belfast Promotions and Peace Promotions have joined forces to bring regular boxing back to Belfast and back to the Ulster Hall. We have five nights guaranteed over the next 12 months, starting in October and then the next one will be in February,” Alan Wilton told the Belfast Telegraph.
“Luke will be in a major title fight, that’s for sure. I am working on a few things at the moment, so whether it’s the British or Commonwealth or a European title fight, it’ll be an exciting fight for the Ulster Hall.
“We want this to be the start of local guys having a proper home base the way the fighters have in Manchester, Birmingham or Liverpool.
“We want to build guys into stars — there are a lot of young professional fighters in Northern Ireland now and instead of travelling to England to get beaten, we want to give them a real chance of making something of themselves.
“We’ll be looking to do a lot of local derby fights and we want to revive the Northern Ireland Area titles and have more Irish title fights.
“It’s a big step going to the Ulster Hall, the costs obviously go up but we believe that if we offer value for money fights the public will back us. This is a new era for Belfast boxing and we are looking to work with everyone in the sport.”
