Moffett looking to Cruise to victory over Darren
By Jonny Stapleton
PAUL Moffett ‘jumped’ at the chance to fight Darren Cruise on Emerald Promotions July 21 card in Belfast and believes the current fighting climate means Irish fight fans could be treated to more all Irish dust ups.
It seems Eastern European grave yards are being left un-tampered and bin collection days are running smooth, as promoters avoid pairing Irish fighters with journey men from the Eastern block.
Moffett having faced Jamie Bonnes and Ciaran Healy in his first two pro bouts is the prime example and he is planning on adding another relatively known name to his record next month.
“I heard there was a fight on the card if I wanted it and that they were thinking of Darren Cruise and I jumped at. It’s a good fight for me. He has a few more fights than me, has been in the Prizefighter and I think will get the public interest,” Moffett told irish-boxing.com.
“Hopefully we will get more of these sort of fights. These are the fights that the public want to see. You can’t really pick and choose these days, personally I think if you believe your good enough there is no reason not to take these fights.”
As a sub in the All Irish Prizefighter in May the former semi pro European champion got a ring side view of Roscommon’s Cruise and he admits he wasn’t impressed.
And whilst he is expecting a much improved display from the Westerner he is confident of a comprehensive win.
“I seen Darren against McDonagh in Prizefighter and wasn’t too impressed to be honest. He looked like he was just there to make up the numbers, I will be expecting a better fight from him against me on July 21. I am not making any predictions other than a convincing win for myself. I have started back into hard training already with 7 weeks to go so i will be super fit come fight night. I’m rated 18 in Britain at super middle already so hopefully this will put me up another few places.”
