FRAMPTON PROMISED WORLD CLASS OPPONENT IN SEPT
Carl Frampton will face a world class opponent in Belfast this September regardless of what Kiko Martinez decides to do, according to manager Barry McGuigan.
The Jackal is keen to sink his teeth into the Spanish European champion and Bernard Dunne’s defeater is being lined up for a September show down with the undefeated star.
However, considering the fact Martinez already pulled out of a scheduled dust up with Frampton, McGuigan isn’t too confident ‘Mini Tyson’ will make a Belfast appearance in the autumn.
As result Team Frampton are keeping their options open and the former world champ has promised a world class opponent for the world ranked fighter.
“We want a big event in the first or last week of September,” McGuigan told The Mirror before commenting on Martinez, “We are trying to get it sorted out, but I am not confident because Kiko Martinez has let us down before. Carl is now in the top 10 and he would like to have a European title fighting in September, but if that doesn’t happen we will definitely have a world class opponent to reinforce his position. The next fight will be in Belfast either the Odyssey or the Kings Hall.
