BRIAN Magee could be crowned WBA super middleweight champion of the World without having to throw a punch.
The Belfast fighter was due to face title holder Karoly Balzsay in Copenhagen on July 7 after Team Magee won the purse bids to promote the fight.
However, the Hungarian’s promoters Universum failed to return a signed contract and it seems the fight will be cancelled.
Balzsay agreed with the WBA that he would defend against the Belfast veteran before end the of June prior to his most recent title defence against Dimitri Sartison, but after a tough battle with the German based fighter on April 21 feels July 7 is too early for a ring return.
Indeed word out of Hungary is that the WBA regular champ never went into serious training and is still recuperating.
Precedent suggests that Balzsay will now be stripped and Magee will be promoted from interim World champion to full World champion over the coming week.
With the World title in his possession the fighter, who is enjoying an boxing Indian Summer, would be inundated with a number of lucrative offers and could even return to Denmark to fight Viking Warrior, Mikkel Kessler.
