HELP US GET LEE V CHAVEZ ON TV

ANDY Lee will attempt to become the latest Champion of the World to hail from Ireland this weekend. The Limerick man challenges undefeated Mexican Julio Chavez Jnr for the WBC middleweight championship of the world in what is easily the biggest fight on the planet this weekend. The boxing world will certainly sit up, take note and consume the fight with great interests.
Unfortunately, however Irish fans, who could not afford a trip to El Paso won’t be able to even view what could turn out to be a historic night in Irish boxing.
No terrestrial TV station has taken up the fight as of yet and Irish fans could be denied the chance to watch Lee follow in the footsteps of Bernard Dunne, Wayne McCullough, Steve Collins and the like.

We here at Irish-boxing.com believe the event should be shown on this side of the Atlantic. We think you might be able to help. Comment below express your desire to see the fight. If we get enough numbers and responses we will send the story on to all UK and Irish tv stations. If they see there is an audience for the fight they might broadcast it.

Boxnation pleaseeeee show this fight !!!!

  2. Anne Doyle says:

Oh course it should be shown! Other sports get much more coverage, despite a much less success rate. Would be nice to see some of Irelands top sports people in the minority sports getting a little more recognition and this is not going to happen if the public can not see these events, if it was a soccer match, it would be on within a blink of the eye.

  3. stephen dempsey says:

This fight needs to be shown here, get behind Andy and follow one of our own aim to be champion of the world! An absolute disgrace if its not shown….

  4. Neil Sheridan says:

Andy lees fight has to be shown on TV, it’s an injustice to Irish boxing fans and Irish People to deprive us of seeing one of our own fighting for a WORLD TITLE… This would not happen to British Fight Fans if one of their Boxers was fighting for a WORLD TITLE… Get it sorted!!!!

  5. should be on sky after quigg vs monroe be a serious night of boxing

    • Eoin Casey says:

Andy is Ireland’s top boxer, and currently the only one who has an immediate realistic chance of winning a world title.

These occasions come along once in a blue moon. It is the duty of Irish broadcasters to showcase our country and its people performing on the big stage on the international level.

We have the boys in Polkrain doing their best for us, but it is not looking good. Our boxers, especially Andy Lee and Katie Taylor are at the top of the world game, please show this to the country and put a few smiles on the faces of people who have gone through a tough couple of years in this country.

      TEAM LEE!

  6. Mike Scott says:

I would pay ppv to watch this on any UK or Irish network. What else do they need to realise tonnes of people will buy it even at 2 or 3 days notice

    • Stephen Kelly says:

Lee is one of the best boxers this country has ever produced and it is a disgrace that the fight is available this side of the atlantic but to say it is because he is not from Dublin is complete crap.

  10. James Mage says:

This fight MUST be on TV, it could be a historic fight and its once every 10 years or so Ireland get a legitimate World champion, this will be the first since Dunne 4 years ago or so.

  18. ryan says:

Surely this fight is on irish TV..Andy lee looks a good thing to beat Chavez Jr. He will be 15 pounds heavier during the fight, slower and will not be able to keep up the intensity for the full rounds. Andy’s feet and movement will be his big advantage, he also punches harder than anyone Chavez Jr ever faced….

I just filed a complaint by email with RTE about their lack of coverage of this fight and also of andys career. The rte sport website boxing section has articles about english fighters amir kahn and the circus event of haye v chisora but nothing on this fight, RTE needs to sort its priorities! Andy is one of the the countries top sports men, a world class boxer and a true gent and he gets no coverage from the countries main broadcaster. But I sent an email to RTE to complain about it.

They were happy enough to show that clown Willie Casey get humiliated against Rigo, and china chin Bernard Dunne. But yet they leave this fight in the wilderness. Outrageous. Good luck lads!

  58. Dale P says:

Typical Irish heads of TV,spending money to fund terrible programmes and even showing the Euros almost in its entirety but yet when we have an Irish man in what is undoubtedly our most successful sport fighting on a world stage they opt not to show it.An amazing night of entertainment, just a pity we won’t be able to enjoy it!

  67. shay higgins says:

andy lee must be possibly one of the greatest fighters to have proudly represented ireland with distinction over the last number of years and to not have even 1 of the main sports channels covering a world title fight involving an irish fighter must be seen as a snub to irish boxing.i wonder when he we wins his fight and becomes world champion will the british try to claim him as they do with our golfers.shame on rte for not even giving us a radio broadcast. 70. Bernet Tam says:

It should definitely be on Irish TV. If the nation is behind Andy, he’ll fight all the better!

  71. Johnny S says:

Hi Guys, See RTE’s response to my e-mail complaining about the fight not being shown.

“Unfortunately I do not have the financial resources to consider this event. Due to the harsh economic circumstances that we are all experiencing I cannot buy sports rights beyond what is already contracted for 2012. The nature of professional boxing means it is impossible to predict when and where significant events will be scheduled.
In an Olympic year I felt it both reasonable and appropriate to spend the finances available to our boxing coverage on the progress of both the men and women at the various Olympic qualifying events. I know you will not argue that their achievements and progress have been significant.
There is no doubt that the achievements of Andy Lee have been outstanding. In better financial times RTE Sport has played its role in recognising those achievements. However at present, with all our other commitments, this was a bridge beyond what we could secure.
I know this note will do little to appease your disappointment but I do hope it goes some way to explaining the rationale.”

  72. dan c says:

please show the andy lee the fight on irish television i dont see why they dont when they do show the english football matches instead of big events like this!

  73. Ray says:

Boxnation is showing the Andy Lee fight on sky channel 456 it took alot of effort and phone calls to get an account set up but it’s going to be well worth it when Andy batters yourman Chavez. Anyone trying to get the channel you need to go to http://www.boxnation.com and click on subscribe this cannot be done from a smartphone it has to be done from a laptop or a pc. COME ON ANDY KNOCK HIM OUT.
