Twitter This and Thats: Praise for Katie Taylor

By Jonny Stapleton- follow us on twitter @irishboxingcom

It might not be as lethal, but Twitter the online version of bird flu is equally as infectious as the deadly Avian Influenza that threatened clipped the wings of poultry around the world.
Five years after its humble beginnings, the microblogging site now handles 1 billion tweets. Not since the great chicken pox out break in my senior infants class have I seen something spread so quick.

An average of 140 million tweets are tweeted a day, it’s a mass movement. The latest in the social networking revolutions provides a voice for everyone. It unites the great and good with us peasants. The middleman that  previously linked us to our sporting hero’s is now gone. We get direct access, not always a positive thing when Joey Barton follows up heading butting and kicking an opponent on a football pitch with a philosophical tweet or some tweeted poetry? Or when you are exposed to the views of the Rio Ferninand and the like.

However, we here at www.irish-boxing.com are massive Twitter fans.  And not just because as the world’s only dyslexic journalist the abbreviation tendency in Twitter allows me to hide constant spelling mistakes.

So we have decided to run a weekly review of all things twitter. In our latest feature we will pick our favourite tweets and compile them here for you to enjoy.

Katie Taylor has captured the imagination of the media, irish fight fans and obviously twitters from all walks of life this week. So its no surprise she dominates our first Twitter focus feature. Paul McGrath, Bernard Dunne, Nicky Byrne, Shay Given, Dara O’Breen and the like lavish the Bray wonder with praise via their computer screens.
