Prizefighter changes careers say former winner Casey
by Jonny Stapleton
Approaching every fight like it’s the final is the only tactic that ensures success in the all action tournament, according to the last Irish fighter to win the prestigious trophy.
Willie Casey claimed super bantamweight success in the all action tournament back in 2010 and warned the Irish Prizefighter 8 not to hold back when it comes to getting ahead in this weekends contest.
“The main advice I can give is to look at everyone your fighting as the favourite. You can’t pick and choose who you are going to put a performance in against. Accept who get in the draw and go out a beat them. Every fight is a final. If you try and save yourself for the final you will go out in round one.”
Prizefighter victory propelled the Limerick southpaw from unknown to European Champion and world title challenger in less than 12 months and he predicts a similar turn around in fortunes for the winner of the first all Irish version of the contest.
“I went from four fight novice to European champion because of Prizefighter. It changed my career and it will do the same for one or two of the lads this weekend. Regardless of what happens I will always remember Prizefighhter. Beating three fighters in one night is such and amazing feeling.”
