Murphy hoping to impress Hatton in first title defence
Brisbane based Newry welterweight Paddy Murphy will defend his Queensland title on July 27 in Maroochydore against a yet to be confirmed opponent, the Newry Reporter reports.
The bout will be the former Ulster Senior Champions first contest since breaking his right hand in a first round victory over Robert Clark in March. The July bout will also be Murphy’s first in a three-year deal with managers Matt Clarke and Brendan Bourke. Speaking to the Newry Reporter Murphy said,
“They have worldwide contacts including Hatton Promotions who signed one of their
boxers Lucas Browne recently,” he said. “I’ll be meeting Ricky Hatton when he comes over to do the paperwork on that deal. The management deal is a big step forward in my career as this will guarantee more fights and tv exposure.”
