Kavanagh : Golden Boy Is The Place To Be To Achieve My Dreams
By Paddy Appleton
Jamie Kavanagh owes a lot to Sedano Ruiz as the Spaniard is the man he sees on a frequent basis when Freddie Roach isn’t around.
The Dubliner feels it is important that people know how Golden Boy works and he is adamant that it is as much of a team as Manchester United or any other.
“Freddie isn’t training me now for this fight, but he will come into the camp near the end because he’s with Amir and Pacman in the Philippines.
“I’ve been working with my other coaches like Sedano Ruiz, but if he wasn’t here then who would be training me? I’d be lost, and I owe a lot to him as a fighter.
“We work very well together and he knows me like no other, even when Freddie is not here I still learn so much from Sedano.”
Kavanagh is in training for his next fight on May 19th against an un-named opponent but he will be in prime shape come fight night as he seeks to continue on the path to glory.
The exciting southpaw is enjoying working at Golden Boy but he says his fans must understand that Oscar De La Hoya is not a miracle worker, and that the Mexican will do what is right for his fighter.
“Oscar is my promoter, he does what every other promoter does which is looks after the interests of their boxers.
“Just because he is Oscar De La Hoya doesn’t make him Superman. People expect him to bring me to the Moon and stars, but that’s up to me to achieve.
“He just points me in the right direction as my promoter and the same goes for what people expect off Freddie Roach just because he’s one of my trainers doesn’t mean it’s a given that I will perform every single time. It’s up to me, the fighter, to perform in the ring.
