Frampton: Hirales is better than Munroe and Quigg
By Jonny Stapleton
CARL Frampton claims Raul Hirales is a better fighter than rivals Rendall Munroe and Scott Quigg and he plans to use the Mexican to join the pair at world level this Saturday night.
The Jackal has constantly stated his desire to fight both Quigg and Munroe, who fight each other for the WBA interim world title next month, in a bid to prove he is the best of the domestic super bantamweights.
However, neither of the Hatton Promoted stars have been open to a Frampton duel and have used the Belfast talent’s lower British ranking to justify their stance.
The truth is both are running scared, according to Barry McGugian’s protege and he is no longer in the mood to chase a fight with either.
As a result he agreed to trade leather with fellow unbeaten prospect Hirales on the under card of Carl Froch and Lucian Bute’s massive world title fight on Saturday night.
The Commonwealth champion admits Hirales is risk but is confident he can over come the Mexican to claim an IBF top 10 ranking and open a path to the very top that bypass’ the reluctant British champion and former world challenger.
“ Ideally I would have fought Munroe or Quigg by now. Everyone knows I wanted to fight them. Since I turned pro I wanted to win a British title, but if the man who holds the title doesn’t want to defend it against you what can you do. I don’t want to hang around and I can’t put my career hold. I am open to those fights, but defeating Hirales can see me make a big step up in the world rankings. I honestly believe this guy is better than both Quigg and Munroe. I am not just saying that I really believe it. ” Frampton told Mirror Sport.
As an unknown in Europe Frampton’s next foe’s abilities might be over looked by some. However, the undefeated Belfast boy is keen to bill the Mexican as the best he has ever fought.
“You can say he is the toughest fight of my career. He comes to fight, he has fast hands, he brings a good work rate and he can punch. I don’t know how hard he hits yet but he has a knock out percentage. Also if I beat him it will push me into the world top 10.”
