Interviewer: Paddy Appleton
favourite current fighter and why
My favourite fighter right now is probably (Yuriorkis) Gamboa, that’s a funny question I’ve never been asked that by anyone before but yeah Gamboa is a real top-notch boxer.
-favourite fighter of all time and why
That’s a tough one, I loved Nigel Benn he was very exciting to watch but then I always held Thomas Hearns in high regards too. Either one of those I could pick, whenever you watched a Hearns or Benn fight you knew it was going to be a good one
-favourite fight of all time and why
I don’t know, there have been some great fights down the years. Maybe Hagler v Hearns and The War. That was great to watch, it was a great fight; two great bangers, but also I liked that they took punches and went down but got back up. I don’t know I just like that. It gave them more character as a fighter I think.
-favourite venue to fight at and why
I like the Garden (Madison Square Garden). When I fought there on my debut, you don’t realise, you never know if you’ll get a chance to fight there again, so you really have to enjoy it. I think it’s a great place to fight.
-any person in history who you would like to get in the ring and why, doesn’t have to be a boxer.
I’d love to get Jeremy Kyle in the ring; I’d knock his head off! I don’t think I’m the only one though, I’d say I’d be waiting in a long queue of people to get a chance to do that.
