Willie Casey left Andreas Evensen with a trip to the local hospital in Frederikshavn, Denmark on Saturday evening. Evensen had a suspected broken jaw and concussion as the fighter vomited whilst waiting for his doping test. Andreas also produced blood during his doping test and as a precaution he attended the hospital.

Willie’s main concern was Eversen’s welfare showing his true professionalism. The pair battled for 12 rounds for the WBA International Featherweight Title with

Evensen coming out on top on the Judges’ score cards 113 -115, 114-114, 113 -115.Willie started the fight slower than anticipated, picking up the pace in the second half of the fight which proved to be too late. With the majority of Evensen’s punches catching Willie on the four arms the man from Limerick barley had a mark on him.

Evensen experienced in the 7th and 12th round why Willie is nicknamed Big Bang after rocking the home fighter and was unlucky not to force a stoppage.

Willie speaking after the fight said “I am, of course disappointed but I can take several positives from the fight. This was the first time I have every gone 12 rounds and felt I could of gone 15 rounds if not more. I thought I would have to stop Evensen to get the decision away from home and should have stayed on him when I hurt in him the 7th and 12th rounds. I took the fight with two weeks’ notice and with an 8 week training camp I think the result would have been different. I am a Super Bantamweight not a Featherweight but still struggle to gain fights with the top fighters in the division which is the reason I took the fight” Speaking with Evensen’s camp after the fight they too thought the decision would have been different on natural soil.

The atmosphere was amazing during the fight. It was like a scene from a blockbuster film with the crowd switching their support from Evensen to Willie in the second half of the fight. After a short rest Big Bang will be back in the gym and Emerald Promotions will shortly announce the next fight for Willie ‘Big Bang’ Casey.
