Steward:Fury, best Heavyweight contender take special fighter to beat him
Legendary boxing trainer Emanuel Steward believes Tyson Fury is the leading heavyweight contender in world at present and warned Martin Rogan it will take a special fighter to beat him.
Steward trains four belt heavyweight champion of the world, Wladimir Klitschko and claims the giant heavyweight, who challengers Martin Rogan for the vacant Irish title this Saturday night, is the most qualified to take on his dominant heavyweight force.
However despite hyping up the Irish title hopeful’s world title credentials the Kronk founder, who also trains Irish middleweight Andy Lee, a cousin of Fury, doesn’t think the Manchester based Irish fighter will challenge for world honours this year.
Steward says the undefeated former British and Commonwealth champion will try and win the Irish and European titles before seeking a mega money clash with one of the Klitschko brothers.
Tyson Fury is the biggest contender out of any of the fighters out there at this moment in time. He does seem to have some issues with training, organisation and issues within in his career, but he is the biggest contender out of all the heavyweights,” Steward told Mirror
Sport.
“Tyson has decided to go the European route so I don’t think he is an option at present, but he is a big star and can have a big career in heavyweight boxing. He has to the size to cause any fighter problems.”
Steward, whose CV reads like a whose who of boxing, wouldn’t be drawn on Rogan’s world title credentials. The Detroit based trainer said he didn’t know too much about Belfast’s former Commonwealth champions capabilities, but did stress it would take a mammoth effort to defeat 23 year old, Fury.
