Carmicheal looking forward to next fight after debut win
By Jonny Stapleton
He may look thoughtful and patient in the ring but neither are virtues Conall Carmicheal seems to have when it comes to his career plan.
The 33 year old former amateur standout made his pro debut in the Odyssey Arena on Saturday night and after out pointing Moses Matovu over four rounds instantly revealed plans to fight Friday week.
The 1999 Senior Irish middleweight champion takes on a yet to be confirmed opponent on April 27. After applying some WD40 and riding himself of some ring rust last Saturday the Harry Hawkin’s trained cruiserweight is hopping for an improved display when he goes to work on the Holliday Inn show.
“That was my first fight in over a year and it showed. I am happy to get the first fight over and done with. Moses is rugid he has been in 40 odd fights, although he might not have had many rounds. He knows his way around the ring- he was wasting time trying to get a breather for himself. I fight in the Holiday Inn the Friday after next and I am looking forward to that and hopefully I will box a bit better.”
